When it comes to lending, banks and traditional lenders are leaving normal hard-working people in the UK behind. If you don’t have an excellent credit score, in many cases you need not bother applying. The conventional view of identifying ‘high-quality’ customers is narrow and restrictive.
At the same time younger customers are choosing to use easier, more convenient digital lenders and we’re seeing sizeable numbers of customers move up the credit ladder from sub-prime into the traditional near-prime market.
These big trends are creating the “new mainstream” for consumer lending in the market – as many as 26 million customers – who don’t meet traditional lenders’ tight credit criteria, but have credit files that put them as near prime and prime lending categories.
